Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

I offer a therapeutic modality called Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in partnership with an organization called Journey Clinical. Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible patients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms. I take on the psychotherapy portion of the experience, while Journey Clinical’s medical team supports you on all medical aspects. This includes determining eligibility, developing a custom treatment plan, prescribing the medicine and monitoring outcomes. Below is more information about KAP to help you navigate if it may be a good fit for you.

What is Ketamine?

  • Ketamine is a legal, medically supervised medication used to treat conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD. It works differently from traditional medications and can help shift mood and perspective more quickly - often within a few hours after a session, with effects that may last for days or weeks.

  • Rather than just managing symptoms, ketamine supports the brain’s ability to form new connections. This can help people step out of stuck patterns, process emotions more openly, and experience greater flexibility in how they think and feel.

  • Ketamine can be given in several forms, including IV, injection, nasal spray, or lozenge. In this practice, it is used in sublingual lozenge form (dissolved under the tongue) as part of a guided therapeutic process.

How Does Ketamine Feel?

  • The active effects of ketamine typically last about 45 minutes. During this time, many people feel relaxed, slightly detached from their body, or experience shifts in perception that can feel expansive or different from usual awareness.

  • Because your movement and speech may be limited, you’ll be resting comfortably throughout the experience. Afterward, we’ll take time to gently process and talk through what came up. Even if it’s hard to put into words, people often leave with a clearer sense of insight or perspective.

  • The emotional and neurological benefits can continue for days or even up to a couple of weeks after the session.

Insurance may cover parts of the process, including medical appointments and psychotherapy sessions. However, ketamine medication and portions of the dosing sessions are not covered and are paid out-of-pocket. Many clients use out-of-network benefits to reduce overall costs.

Each round of Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy typically includes:

  • 1 Preparation Session

  • 1 Dosing Session

  • 1–2 Integration Sessions
